Lefkas Canal (South to North)

After spending our last night on anchor in Nydri on Lefkada Island (and toasting the occasion with drinks in the coach roof!), it was time to make our way to our final destination aboard Long Summer. We set off up the Lefkas Canal, heading South to North, motoring slowly through the narrow causeway past salt flats and ancient monuments.

At the floating swing bridge we jostled for space with other boats, making sure we passed through the narrow opening and not wanting to be shut out for the next few hours. Just over a year ago we had made this journey in the opposite direction. We felt noticeably more confident in our skills and ability this time around, and the sunny summer weather made it all the more enjoyable too!

Once through the canal we picked up the wind and sailed North along the west coast of Greece. With both our hearts and Genoa sail full, we soaked in the moment and reflected in just how far we’ve come. Turning east into the Preveza channel we sailed all the way into the bay with the wind at our backs, passing each marker buoy with satisfaction. This was to be our very final port of call.

It was the perfect last sail aboard Long Summer, and we thanked her accordingly.
